Chapter 10 (cont.)

Creating a Happy Home Life

Dr. Ronald David, former Chief Medical Officer of Washington, D. C. General Hospital, and former lecturer in public policy with John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, stated:

An impressive body of scientific research indicates that practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique by a small proportion of a population reduces stress and creates a positive influence in the entire population. This means that employees in a company practicing this stress-reduction modality will not only benefit the company, but should have far-reaching benefits for the larger society as well.

Since the salesman holds a prominent role in the success or failure of America as a nation, it is up to the salesman to take the initiative and become a leader by taking control of himself. Begin the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique, draw on your inner resources, unfold your full potential, and enjoy a happy, peaceful, prosperous and successful life. This role of leadership will be the positive influence that you will radiate wherever you go. This is all that can be expected of anyone. This is living a spiritual life. It is said that spirituality is not correct belief, but righteous (right action) living. We already saw how right action is achieved. As one's consciousness expands through the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique, he becomes more aware of the truths of his own religion. The Transcendental Meditation technique is a simple mechanical procedure which enhances the spiritual growth of the individual.

Rev. Joseph M. Occhio stated in his letter to the editor of the Beacon newspaper:

Yes I am a priest and a meditator. Why did I get involved with TM? Because I found it to be a happy conclusion to a long personal search... Briefly, the essentials of TM can validly coexist with Christianity. You can be a good Catholic and a practicing meditator. Try it. You will like it.

Raphael H. Levine, Rabbi Emeritus of Temple De Hirsch Sinai, stated in his May 1, 1975 letter of support for TM:

Since I have been meditating I have often been asked how TM relates to my Judaism. I have discovered no conflict to my faith as a Rabbi nor to any religion which I have studied. On the contrary, its undoubted benefits in increasing one's mental and physical energy can only help people appreciate their own religion more by relieving the mind and the nervous system from the inevitable stresses of life. Thus it helps a person to a more wholesome and healthy mental attitude, which our respective faiths teach is the way to achieve fullness of life ... It can only enrich our appreciation and sensitivity of the great values of our respective faiths.

Reverend Dr. Craig Overmyer (meditating 25 years), a pastoral counselor in Indianapolis, Indiana, who holds a doctorate of divinity said:

I decided to commit my life to Christ after I'd been practicing the Transcendental Meditation program for three months ... I would say to any Christian—to anyone of any religion—that the TM program would benefit your life. It's a technique, a simple process that requires no belief. It is not a religion.

Rabbi Alan Green (meditating 23 years) of Beth Israel Synagogue in Winnipeg, Manitoba states:

The Transcendental Meditation program has made me a better rabbi because it has given me an experience and insight into the profound depths of life ...

Reverend Leo James Hoar, Director of Notre Dame High School, stated in his January 7, 1974 letter of support for TM:

...However, upon learning more about Transcendental Meditation ... I realized that it in no way conflicted with my religion or belief of God, but actually complemented it...

In conclusion, I would like to recommend the practice of Transcendental Meditation as a means of creating a more peaceful world and enjoying life more fully in the spirit of rest and strength, awareness and growth.

The collective effect of one percent of the people in America meditating will result in a phase transition that will spiritually regenerate our nation. By meditating you are making the greatest contribution possible to yourself, your family and your nation. It is up to the salesman, who has the greatest impact on society, to do his share to bring about this phase transition. Then, we will live the ideals upon which this nation was built. America will become strengthened by each of its individual constituents to fulfill the destiny with which it has been endowed - to be one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. This will be a happy home life, indeed!
