Chapter 12 (cont.)

The TM-Sidhi Program

The daily practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique opens the awareness to Transcendental Consciousness, the home of all the laws of nature, which is the basis of everyone's awareness. It is on this deep inner level of awareness that the TM-Sidhis are practiced, thereby culturing one's ability to think and act from this level. By learning to function from this deep inner level of awareness, which is the home of all the laws of nature, the mind gains support of nature for the fulfillment of desires. With the TM-Sidhi program, thought and action spontaneously become more in accord with the evolutionary power of natural law. This results in greater skill in action and the ability to fulfill one's desires naturally.

The siddhis which are taught by the Transcendental Meditation movement accelerate the development of higher levels of intelligence, learning ability, creativity, and neurological efficiency. Of particular interest is instruction in one aspect of the TM-Sidhi program called "Yogic Flying," the preliminary stage of levitation.

Only when the individual has developed sufficiently in his practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique whereby he can maintain his awareness at its simplest level in Transcendental Consciousness will the person be able to gain command over the laws of nature and successfully perform the siddhis. It is from that fine level of consciousness, where one experiences directly the unified field of all possibilities, that anything is possible. And anything means even levitation.

Physicist Dr. John Hagelin explains:

Yogic Flying, the ability of the body to float and fly really demonstrates mastery over the gravitational force. And you can't master gravity without transcending the classical laws that prevent such a phenomenon. That means without taking recourse to quantum gravity. And quantum gravity, again, is the level of the unified field. So Yogic Flying is a clear, clear demonstration of the capability of the human nervous system to function coherently at the level of the unified field.

The ability to levitate or even to fly, has been a recorded heritage of humanity in Europe, Africa, India and Australia. In Butler's Lives of Saints over 200 saints are reported to have levitated (Thurston & Attwater, 1962). Also, according to legend, one sect of Buddhist monks locks its neophyte meditator into a sealed room with only an out-of-reach window available for an exit. The monk remains there in isolation, brought only food and drink, until he levitates out of the window (graduates) and joins his peers.

There is not much more that I can say about the TM-Sidhi program. Listing the specific techniques that are taught and providing the method of performing the techniques is intentionally beyond the scope of this book. It is important that this special program of study be made under close supervision. The TM-Sidhi program harnesses our principle power: the mind. It is important that we have absolute control over it. It is important that the techniques for the unfoldment of mental potential are taught in safety and in a context which will assure that such techniques are not misused. It would be foolish and irresponsible to teach someone to drive a car by giving them the ignition keys and sending them for a solo drive in the mainstream of highway traffic. Driving is simple, but there is a set procedure to do it. An orientation to driving is necessary. The mechanics of driving, some safety procedures, and knowledge of how the controls work should first be reviewed. Then, some experience of driving while under supervision is necessary. Likewise, the simple practice of unfolding one's mental potential is learned.

It is important to emphasize that Transcendental Meditation Movement does not teach the control or manipulation of others. The Transcendental Meditation program and the TM-Sidhi program are concerned with personal development, not mastery over others, but mastery over oneself—self-unfoldment. This is the basis for achieving success in life. Success does not come from attempting to dominate, control or manipulate others. Such are the causes of failures.

You can approach the challenges of business and personal life from a limited perspective and with limited use of your resources, or you can draw upon that latent infinite reservoir within your inner self. You can meet the challenges of life from a fully developed status. Why, then, limit yourself to anything less than full use of your mental potential. You were endowed with this powerful resource. Use it.
