FOR SALES' SAKE MEDITATE!Vincent J. DaczynskiChapter 4 (cont.)
Incidentally, the sounds used in the Transcendental Meditation practice are called mantras. Mantras are sounds with known effects. The mantras used in the Transcendental Meditation practice have the effect of allowing the mind to transcend. The selection of suitable mantras for individuals and the technique of experiencing the mantra at its increasingly finer levels to arrive at the source of thought is the essence of the ancient yoga teachings. It is this yoga teaching that has been a closely guarded secret throughout history. Swami Brahmananda Saraswati was the direct custodian of these secret teachings. Upon his departure, Indian scholar, teacher and monk, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who was revered as his most devoted and successful student, received the custodianship of this knowledge in sacred trust. According to tradition, this knowledge was only to be passed along to the next worthy custodian. However, seeing a world in chaos - crime rampant in every part of the world, continued wars, world-wide poverty, hunger and disease, and the moral fabric of society in decay - Maharishi, having the solution in hand, could not, in good conscience, deny people throughout the world the means to regenerate themselves and society. For this reason, Maharishi formulated this ancient wisdom into a program readily adaptable to the active Westerner's life style, and he specially trained some 40,000 teachers world-wide, entrusting each of them with the custodianship of this sacred science in order to make this knowledge of inner life available to people everywhere.
This knowledge, unfortunately, cannot be communicated by written description alone. It must be imparted on a one-to-one basis, teacher to student. At that time the instructor determines the appropriate mantra that is to be used by the individual, and provides guidance in the simple, but delicate, use of the mantra. The experience of transcending is a novel one and the presence of the instructor at the time of learning the practice of Transcendental Meditation is essential to answer any questions that arise, and to ensure that the individual is doing the Transcendental Meditation technique correctly.
Were the Transcendental Meditation technique not available to everyone, this book would be just a philosophical dissertation on achieving success. This is not the case, however. The availability of the Transcendental Meditation technique takes this treatise out of the realm of philosophy and brings it to the reality of a scientifically measurable personal experience. The Transcendental Meditation technique is the key to bringing one's awareness to that source of oneself which is also the source of everything in creation. The Transcendental Meditation technique enables one to contact that primary energy and intelligence that underlies all existence. By establishing his awareness at that primordial level the salesman cannot help but become successful. Note that success is not something that needs to be attained or acquired. You already have all the ingredients for success within you. They are latent and only need to be brought forth.
Being energetic, being intelligent, being charismatic, being efficient, being wealthy, being successful, etc., are natural expressions of being, i.e., existence itself. The Transcendental Meditation technique connects you to this primordial field of being so that these inherent creative impulses of life find their expression spontaneously and naturally in your daily activity. This is the key to successful selling.
The Transcendental Meditation technique, by giving a vertical dimension to the mind, enabling contact with being, obsoletes all forms of sales training programs in the marketplace today. The quantum difference between this approach of achieving success to that of all other methods should now be evident.
Consider the naive gardener who is confronted with the task of curing a withering tree. He works on each withering leaf trying to modify it, wash it, clean it up, add some wire supports, paint it, etc. The experienced gardener, realizing that a tree is nourished from within, simply waters the root and enjoys the fruit. The gardener with an expanded vision knows that the solution is not found by manipulations on the level of effects. He does not treat the symptoms. It is necessary to get to the root cause of the withering condition of all of the leaves. It is obvious that nourishment from within is required. Likewise, the numerous problems of salesmen, which can be likened to the many withering leaves, are not solved on the level of the problems. Sales trainers should realize that emotional inhibitors, lack of energy, loss of enthusiasm, poor health, procrastination, lack of efficiency, etc., are all symptoms. The solution is not going to be found in the use of pep talks, motivational training,
sensitivity sessions, contemplative mood-making, or the like, since these all deal on the level of symptoms. All of the salesmen's problems can be resolved by nourishing salesmen from deep within their own being. Give salesmen the method of contacting their infinite reservoir of energy and intelligence which is their own inner nature and success will be experienced in all aspects of their lives. The Transcendental Meditation technique achieves this. It enables the salesmen to contact, and systematically draw on, the source of existence itself, and thereby make use of the full potentiality of life. This is why the Transcendental Meditation technique is the holistic approach to sales training and development.
