Unfolding Your Mental Potential

The unfoldment of mental potential through the practice of the TM technique is not conjecture. Controlled scientific studies prove that the benefits claimed by the proponents of Transcendental Meditation are not merely subjective speculations. EEG studies on practitioners of the TM technique revealed a high order of synchronization in alpha brain wave activity from the back to the front of the brain. Occasionally, periods of beta brain wave activity occurred which were also synchronized and in phase from all points on the scalp. Synchronization of brain wave activity was also noted between the right and left cerebral hemispheres. It is important to point out that this unique condition of orderliness in brain physiology results as a natural effect from the practice of the TM technique. There is no attempt at operant conditioning or special training. These findings were reported in Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology," Vol. 33, 1972, and in Vol. 35, 1973. The studies were conducted by Dr. Jean-Paul Banquet at Stanley Cobb Laboratories for Psychiatric Research, Massachusetts General Hospital, and at Harvard Medical School. Researchers at MERU, a Swiss research institution, doing advanced studies into consciousness, and identifying parallels between consciousness and the principles of physics, draw a correlation between the orderliness of the brain caused by the practice of the TM technique and the Third Law of Thermodynamics. The Third Law of Thermodynamics states that maximum orderliness is achieved when the temperature (activity) of a given system is decreased. Of course, during the practice of the TM technique we are not reducing the temperature of our brains. However, we are reducing mental activity. With the reduction in mental activity orderliness in the functioning of the brain occurs. This makes sense since the source of thought is that least excited state of the mind which contains all the laws of nature in unmanifested form. Experience tells us that this unmanifested field of pure potentiality must be orderly since all of creation which springs forth from this source is orderly. The TM technique brings our awareness to this level of orderliness and structures that orderliness on the level of our thinking. A mind structured in orderliness must produce orderly and powerful thinking, speech and action.

Positive thinking aims the mind in the right direction. But it is powerful thinking that enables you to achieve that at which you aim. The difference between positive thinking and powerful thinking is like aiming a flashlight at the moon compared to aiming a laser light at the moon. A strong, powerful mind gives the salesman the wherewithal to do what he wants to do. A powerful mind, therefore, helps counter procrastination.

The average person's brain waves are scattered, diffused, much like the light from an ordinary light bulb. The brain waves of practitioners of the TM technique are synchronized and may be compared to the synchrony found in a laser light. The difference between the light from a light bulb versus a laser light is the synchronization of wave activity. Likewise, the difference between the average salesman and the supersalesman is brain-wave synchrony. It is brain-wave synchrony that gives concentrated power to thought and enables one to perform superhuman abilities such as to levitate one's body by mere intention - more about that later.

Gary Bogart of McCandless, national sales manager for WPXI-TV, Pittsburgh, has been practicing the TM technique for more than three years. He explained, "I was trying to find a way to ease stress, and TM also helps you focus more."

Steven Rubin, Chairman and CEO of United Fuels International, Inc. (international energy brokerage firm), stated:

For me the experience of settled inner wakefulness and expanded awareness during the Transcendental Meditation technique is the real foundation for successful decision making. After meditating I have the mental clarity and alertness for laser-like focus on the details and; at the same time, for broad comprehension so I don't get lost in the details. I find myself continuously growing in insight and intuition, as well as in the ability to focus and analyze. Over my years in business, the TM technique has been a real competitive advantage.

Burton A. Dole, Jr., former Chairman and CEO, Puritan-Bennett Corp. (leading manufacturer of respiratory products), shared a similar view:

The key to success in today's world is innovation, creativity - beyond anything else. If you create products and services that are clearly better than what your competitors produce, you're going to succeed in today's world. Having the ability to enhance one's own creativity as well as that of one's employees seems to me to be the ultimate responsibility of a manager within a company. And the Transcendental Meditation program allows that creativity enhancement to take place beyond anything I've ever seen.

Researchers support the anecdotal claims of meditators; they find that there is a high degree of correlation between creativity and orderly brain wave activity. Also, studies comparing TM meditators and control groups of nonmeditators show that those practicing TM exhibit increased intelligence growth rate, increased learning ability and improved memory. Research studies have also indicated that practitioners of the TM technique are more resourceful, adaptable and flexible. All these benefits are fundamental to progress. *Please see Fig. 5 Fig. 6 Fig. 7

Above all, the TM technique, by unfolding the salesman's awareness to his own inner self, gives the salesman knowledge of his own reality and his relationship with the universe.

Tom Gould, Chairman and CEO, Younkers, Inc. (a Midwest chain of 53 fashion department stores), stated:

My practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique has given me a 360-degree awareness. In business, I have always been very fixed and focused on my goals. Now, with the expanded awareness gained from the Transcendental Meditation program, I am able to be more open and flexible in my approaches to achieving these goals. In my personal life, I feel that I am a far more integrated, fulfilled human being.
